1. Electronic Prescribing (E-Prescribing)

1.1. E-Prescribing allows medical professionals to generate prescriptions electronically to be sent to pharmacies which will have it prepared for the patient. It is the modern way to secure the prescriptions ordered are legible and gives a lesser chance for mix ups

1.1.1. Purpose #1 - Allows pharmacy and medical provider to view patient's medication history

1.1.2. Purpose #2 - Can be managed by Doctors themselves to send prescriptions to patient's pharmacy

1.1.3. Purpose #3 - Electronic, not paper based. Easier to manage and interpret

1.1.4. Purpose #4 - Safer method for controlling prescriptions. Order is made directly from office. Not left in hands to potential patient manipulation or altering

2. Privacy & Security

2.1. Allows the information to arrive encrypted to ensure patient or caregiver have primary access

2.2. Easier to manage and store reducing chances of theft, misuse, or loss as could happen with physical records

2.3. IT has the ability to have a paper trail of who has accessed the patient's information and when as well

4. Electronic Health Records (EHR)

4.1. EHRs allow a collection of health data for a patient's life to be store in an online cloud that allows Doctors to access their patient's info instantaneously

4.1.1. Purpose #1 - Allows the paperwork to be secured in a single safe area to avoid the hassle of physical papers and files

4.1.2. Purpose #2 - Storing in the cloud allows access at any time and any place, whether a mobile or computer device

4.1.3. Purpose #3 - Allows Doctors to share the patient's medical information in an easy manner to specialists if needed

4.1.4. Purpose #4 - Can be shared across all departments in the medical area to avoid errors or mistakes if have provided information manually

5. Personal Health Records

5.1. PHRs are similar to patient portals in the way that it allows the patient itself view their personal records, previous or upcoming visits, and also allows personal health data to be input. It is more for the use of completing online forms, viewing medical results, and communicate with the medical provider

5.1.1. Purpose #1 - It is managed primarily by the patient when it comes to what can be viewed on the portal

5.1.2. Purpose #2 - Can be linked with an EHR

5.1.3. Purpose #3 - Patient can input personal or life related health information such as diet, exercise, and BP
