1. Why?

1.1. MasterCard are big on lowering carbon emissions and reducing carbon footprint.

1.1.1. This could be because the biggest Environmental Social Governance (ESG) trend for 2023 was cards made from sustainable materials

1.2. The impact of environmental issues globally have encouraged major corporations to inform consumers on how they can make changes that will benefit worldwide. The influence of MasterCard towards sustainability and rethinking buying habits can have a long lasting impact.

2. Who?

2.1. MasterCard is a global technology company in the payments industry. Their primary function is to facilitate payments. In other words, this means that they make it possible for companies to take electronic payments like credit and debit cards using the card that is most commonly used worldwide.

2.2. The audience of our solution is MasterCards customers. This includes banks, governments and businesses.

2.2.1. This is because our solution is to create less physical cards and divert transactions directly to digital and mobile payment.

3. When?

3.1. We have been given one week to find a solution and present this to MasterCard.

3.1.1. A limitation that may occur from this is that the releatively tight deadline can increase stress and pressure on the group. Although this may be the case we still are focusing on keeping a high attention to detail throughout the presentation

4. What?

4.1. Mastercard has asked us to produce a presentation providing a way to grow their customers knowledge on the current environmental issues.

4.2. The solution our team has come up with is to completely cut the production of cards, and move to digital payment.

4.2.1. In order to achieve this, all cards will be found in the banking app on everyones phones.

4.2.2. Because of the budget given to us is 3.5 million the finances provided is not enough to fully reach our goal of going completly cardless. We plan on starting on a smaller scale and eventually build on going 100% cardless.

5. How?

5.1. This solution will encourage MasterCards audience to become more self-aware on how the production and use of physical debit and credit cards impacts the enviroment. This is because 'The Go cardless project' will make people question how much this effects the environment worldwide

5.2. This solution ties in with MasterCards vision of 'building a sustainable economy' and it also ties in with their recent 'do well by doing good' campaign that MasterCard has defined as 'putting innovative solutions to work protecting the planet'
