1. Bilingual Education

1.1. Standard 1 - High proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, listening in native and partner language

1.1.1. Objective: long-term program extending to at least K-5, and often extending to Middle School and Secondary

1.1.1.1. Teaching Strategy: use of stories, histories, events, knowledge of local places and people to help students make connections

1.1.1.1.1. For example, the American personage of George Washington Carver, has many parallels with serf-born Ukrainian Poet-Laureate Taras Shevchenko

1.1.1.1.2. Folk stories may teach values that are valuable to that culture, but also to some extent, resonates universally. The film about the "Mean Neighbours" is about being happy and valuing that what we have.

1.2. Standard 2 - Academic Proficiency At or Above Grade Level

1.2.1. Objective 1: Core academic instruction in both languages starting at 90/10 (90% partner language; 10% English)

1.3. Standard 3 - Acquire Positive Cross-Cultural Attitudes

1.3.1. Objective: Integrated content instruction, so students are together for the whole instructional day

1.3.1.1. Teaching Strategy 1: Identify authors, painters, Inventors of the target culture as a hook to the content area

1.3.1.1.1. In Music, English composers may be studied for example "Aurora" by William Lloyd Webber, contrasted by a Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych who coposed "The Carol of the Bells"

1.3.1.1.2. In Art, the Cubist period of Pablo Picasso may be juxtaposed with his Ukrainian contemporary sculptor Alexander Archipenko

1.3.1.2. Teaching Strategy 2: Incorporate Host/Home Country units of study where possible, with the aim of sharing cultural experiences, and perhaps a final food-costume-music based celebration

1.3.1.2.1. In Literature and Language Arts, the Christmas theme can be explored by Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol" and Christmas Traditions (turkey, pudding, wreaths on the door); the Ukrainian theme can be explored with Mykola Hohol's (Nikolai Gogol) "The Night Before Christmas" and the village traditions of carol singers, a Christmas pageant-theatre, and the 12 dishes of the Christmas table.

2. Language Development Programs

2.1. Standard 1 - Communicate ideas, concepts and information for academic success in Language Arts and Mathematics

2.1.1. Objective 1: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics Literacy Folders (evidence of standardised testing)

2.1.1.1. Teaching Strategy 1: Teaching test-taking strategies and test language vocabulary (e.g. questioning while readingtext-based response, predictions and inferences, critical responses, metacognitive strategies)

2.1.1.2. Teaching Strategy 2: Support common vocabulary for English and Math Literacy, by repetition and placement in various contexts, as decided upong as a grade team level.

2.1.1.3. Teaching Strategy 3: Frequent on-the-spot writing responses to provide authentic practice; could be incorporated with blog-posts to provide a comfortable "in-my-zone" writing experience

2.2. Standard 2 - Communicate ideas, concepts and information for academic success in Science and Cultural Studies

2.2.1. Objective: Participate in whole class setting outside of Core Subjects

2.2.1.1. Teaching Strategy 1: Students in Science class would participate to their level of comfort; students with high comfort level should try to achieve mastery or be encouraged to do so.

2.2.1.2. Teaching Strategy 2: Students with low comfort level are encouraged to participate through image-based text, games, and low-level activities to gain exposure to the topic of instruction

2.3. Standard 3 - Communicate for social, intercultural, and instructional purposes in the school setting

2.3.1. Objective 1: 3-7 years to reach proficient English level, moving between various levels (beginning-intermediate-advanced

2.3.1.1. Teaching Strategy: Careful tracking and observation of student will allow the teacher team to make adjustments, outside the testing windows, as to upward/downward movement of the student to find the most comfortanle but challenging learning environment

2.3.2. Objective 2: Additional English Support class

2.3.2.1. Teaching Strategy: This class would be taught as a thematic based structure (using multi-sensory experiences such as film, audio, text, images) and could incorporate vocabulary and skills from core and non-core subjects.
